Camera
Introduction
Joshua of Skeleton Works was assigned to the camera log section. He spent 2 lessons learning the ins and outs of how to use the camera to shoot the horror trailer. "I have learned how to set up the camera to its standard setting to be able to shoot scenes without them looking distorted. I am also learning a range of different camera shooting techniques." is what he said when reporting back to Liz. All the use of camera techniques he is learning will help when we are shooting our horror movie trailer.

Video Logs
Tuesday 16th October 2014This was our very first lesson. In it we as a group learnt the basics of setting up the camera to enable us to shoot the trailer smoothly. As mentioned in the video we learnt how to set the ISO balance to a standard level before shooting and also how to alter it if we were exposed to different light during different scenes.

Friday 19th October 2014On this day we got to use a range of different camera tools to help enable us in shooting our Horror movie trailers. As you will see from the various different videos below we learnt how to use several different camera tools, one of which was the track and dolly device. The track and dolly device could be used for scenes showing two subjects interacting and talking and walking whilst also maintaining a balanced space away from the subjects. It creates a seamless affect because the audience watching will see that the subjects are being followed but it will not stand out it. Another device we used was one which went onto your shoulder and could be used to shoot close up of conversations in Point of View, it could also be used for different character shots such as shot reverse shot and over the shoulder shot.

Evidence of Test Shots
This slideshow shows the different range of shots that we practiced.
Evidence of Different Shooting techniques
TiltingTilting is done but moving the camera up and down in a fixed position.
|
PanningPanning is done by focusing on a subject and swiveling the camera side to side to follow that subject whilst staying in a fixed position, the camera doesn't track the subject.
|
Low Angle Pan
This was shot with a wide angled lens. Shots like these could be used for establishing scenes. The camera is situated low shooting upwards.

Evidence of Track and Dolly
This an over the shoulder shot showing the camerawoman tracking a subject which is then shown again below but from a different perspective.

Evaluation Process/Experience
Before the camera lessons i was not very fond of using DSLR cameras but now that i have completed it i now am very confident with the skills that i have acquired from these lessons. I am able to set the camera up by myself and i have now gained more confidence with using cameras and more technically advanced camera's. I believe that i will be able to hone my skills with using DSLR camera's and i am feeling increasingly confident about shooting my production teams horror trailer.
Some of the skills that i have acquired include being able to set up the camera to default settings so i am able to shoot. This includes setting the ISO balance. Also setting white balance with a white piece of paper. We were also given tips that before a scene we should already get the focus and zoom corrected for the scene instead of zooming in while filming.
